Building for a sustainable future

At Mäntytorni, decades of building experience meet today’s ecological standards – creating a building made to last.

The technical design of this remarkable log apartment building is based on the Block solution by Kontio, a master in log construction, bringing timber to where its natural strengths shine.

Mäntytorni’s load-bearing core – the internal walls and intermediate floors – will be built in durable concrete, while the exterior walls will be crafted from premium log. These high-quality log walls give each home an exceptional atmosphere, creating interiors that are both distinctive and inspiring.

A low-carbon choice

At Mäntytorni, sustainability is built into every wall. The laminated logs, expertly crafted by Kontio, form a remarkable store of carbon – each one made from pine grown in responsibly managed, PEFC-certified forests.

A log wall holds four times as much carbon as a typical timber-framed wall, ten times more than a standard brick wall, and an astonishing one hundred times more than a conventional concrete wall. Every home becomes a quiet ally in the fight against climate change.

Designed to achieve an A energy rating, Mäntytorni reduces the need for heating and plays its part in reaching carbon-neutral targets – proving that future-minded living is both beautiful and responsible.

The warmth of home

Every Mäntytorni residence opens to two directions of light, while spacious recessed balconies bring a sense of openness and brightness to the interiors. Floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass doors create a seamless flow between the balcony and the living and dining areas.

The kitchens are set slightly apart from the living spaces, yet close enough for easy conversation between the two. With generous room for more than one cook and a dedicated dining area, they are designed for both practicality and sociability.

Bedrooms are placed on opposite sides of the home for privacy, and the largest apartments offer as many as four bedrooms. The top-floor 109-square-metre home boasts its own sauna and an impressive full-width balcony.

Each residence features its own ventilation system and provisions for the installation of a cooling air-source heat pump.

Enjoy cleverly designed shared spaces

At Mäntytorni, excellent transport connections make it easy to live without your own car. Cyclists will appreciate the shared bike-wash station and high-quality bicycle parking.

A shared car reduces the need for own car while offering flexibility in getting around. For those who do drive, a sheltered parking hall is available, with parking places for rent including electric vehicle charging facilities.

Residents also benefit from a shared laundry room and drying space.

Enjoy the gentle warmth of a log sauna

On the top floor, a cosy log sauna invites you to savour gentle heat and relax on the spacious balcony while taking in the stunning views. Adjacent to the sauna, a club room provides space for communal gatherings.

The summer atmosphere continues on the leafy rooftop terrace, offering room for relaxation, small plantations, and children’s play. Located on the second floor, the terrace feels like a retreat above everyday life, with fences and pergolas providing privacy from passers-by.

Connected to the terrace is a shared green room, where residents can make a coffee and catch up with neighbours while keeping an eye on the children playing in the sandbox.

The warmth of timber in a stone cityscape

Mäntytorni’s scale sits harmoniously within the charming Patola residential area, while the timber construction provides an engaging contrast to the stone city streets. With its distinctive appearance and character, the building will become a recognisable landmark in the neighbourhood.

Housing Company Helsingin Mäntytorni is a seven-storey log apartment building comprising a total of 22 homes and one commercial unit. Apartment sizes range from 46.5 to 109 m². The building is situated on a leased plot owned by the City of Helsinki.

Mäntytorni is a part of the Re-thinking Urban Housing programme by Helsinki City.
